On Sunday September 23, 2018, Holy Ascension Church marked the annual celebration of the Sisterhood's Feast Day in honor of the "Kursk-Root" Icon of the Mother of God (8/21 September). One of the very first icons of our parish is the "Kursk-Root" Icon, a copy of which was brought by clergy from San Francisco to Sacramento as a gift at one of the first gatherings of the parish founders way back in 1953.
The Sisterhood helps our parish in a myriad of ways by providing meals on Sundays and other occasions, by cleaning the church and decorating it with flowers, by maintaining the vestry, by baking the prosphora and by so many other ways. The parish would not be the same without our sisters' presence. We thank them for their love and their labors.
This year is was our sisters from Moldova who treated the community to delicious entrees from their motherland. May God grant many years to all the women who labor in holiness for our church!
