“Be Thou exalted, O God, above the heavens, and Thy glory above all the earth.”
Great Consecration 40 Years Ago and the Relics of Holy Apostle Paul

On Sunday November 19, 2017, at the end of Divine Liturgy the community of Holy Ascension Church performed a Thanksgiving Molebin, as is the parish custom on the Sunday before the civil holiday Thanksgiving.

The sermon called attention to the contemplation of those good things, which God bestows upon His servants: the gift of life, and especially the great blessing of being called to Holy Baptism and to have been vouchsafed worthy to have received the Sacred Mysteries of Christ.

But this 24th Sunday after Pentecost on which the Holy Church (this year) also commemorates the memory of our Father among the Saints Paul the Confessor Patriarch of Constantinople, the community of Holy Ascension Church marked the 40th Anniversary of the Great Consecration of the church (November, 1977) and gave thanks to God for a remarkable gift which came to the parish from the Holy Mountain, Athos, in Greece: a relic of the Holy Apostle Paul.

A particle of the honorable relics of the Holy Apostle Paul was given to the parish by monks of Saint Anne’s Skete (Athos), received on November 16th, 2017. The Rector of the church, Archpriest Paul Volmensky, read from the ambo the contents of the certificate of authenticity of the relic issued by St. Anne’s Skete. Upon completion of the Divine Liturgy the faithful venerated the honorable relic of St. Paul as they kissed the cross.

All enjoyed a Thanksgiving turkey dinner in the church hall, at which time “Memory Eternal” was sung for all those who contributed to the construction of our church and its Great Consecration 40 years ago: Archbishop Anthony, Archpriest Gregory (Tanasiuk), and all the reposed founders, builders, and adorners of our holy temple.
